The doors to Jordan-Hare Stadium were opened one last time before football season, and the light from the video board could be seen all across campus. Students poured onto the field with pillows, blankets and friends in tow, anxiously awaiting for one of the most well-known thematic scores to blast through the speakers. Friends piled on top of one another, grabbing snacks and drinks.
Then, the screen blanked and the most infamous words in cinematic history rolled across the screen: A LONG TIME AGO IN A GALAXY FAR, FAR AWAY . . . Rogue One had officially begun on the largest video board in the country.
The annual Stadium Movie was another success with over 1,100 students coming onto Pat-Dye Field for a special showing of Rogue One by University Program Council (UPC). As students entered the stadium, they had the opportunity to grab a snack and drinks provided by UPC as they set up their blankets on the field. Many people came in sporting Star Wars blankets, t-shirts, and stuffed Stormtroopers. A few even brought their very own lightsabers and had duels right there on the field. There were those who were introduced to the Star Wars franchise for the first time, bombarding their more well versed friends with question after question. Most students were quoting “I am one with the Force, the Force is with me” throughout the entire showing. Even Aubie made an appearance, ready to be out of this world.
Regardless of how well you know Star Wars and everything that it entails, it was a fun evening spent with friends, roommates, and significant others by curling up and watching a movie under the Jumbotron. Make sure to sprawl out on Pat-Dye Field for next year’s Stadium Movie beneath the largest video board in the country!
