The Wizarding World of UPC, complete with the showing of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, was fantastic, to say the least.
For this event, Films and Special Projects committees worked together to go all out for the Potter fans at Auburn. Details included:
- Honeydukes candy cart, like the candy trolley on the Hogwarts Express
- Butterbeer, a signature drink from the Harry Potter books and films
- Other Potter-themed foods, like “dragon meat” and “golden snitches”
- "Sorting hats" - a station to sort students into one of the four Hogwarts houses: Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin
- A raffle for fun Potter-themed prizes
These special touches were fun, and the movie was phenomenal, but one of the best parts of the event was the crowd. The Wizarding World of UPC attracted an incredibly wide variety of Auburn students. Some came in proudly showing off their Hogwarts house colors on tee shirts or sweatshirts; others were confused and obviously brought in by a friend. Some had never seen Fantastic Beasts before; others were quoting their favorite scenes. Whether they had just come from a chapter meeting, sprinted straight to the Student Center from the Rec, or were taking a break from studying, the diverse crowd had one thing in common: everyone was there expecting a magical night.
This unique group that attended the Wizarding World of UPC just goes to show one of the many reasons why you should attend UPC events: they’re a great opportunity to meet new people who are different from you, but who also share a common interest. And who knows? The friendships you form at UPC events might just become something magical!
“There are some things you can’t share without ending up liking each other, and a good UPC event is one of them.” - J.K. Rowling, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone (paraphrased)
Our last event before spring break is a calligraphy workshop on Thursday, March 9, at 5:30 p.m. in Student Center Ballroom. We hope to see you there!
